Jun 23, 2008 - Nice Video...Simple, but effective. I like how you focus on only one or two goals per video. Many teachers try to do 100 things and people learn nothing.

Aug 15, 2008 - About the IELTS writing test, are we penalised if we write more than the needed words? Both task 1 and 2?

voxguru Says:

Aug 16, 2008 - Short answer: No. But, best to write more or less 250 words for the essay, and (I think) it's 160, or thereabouts for the Report. Part of the challenge is planning your answer to meet the word requirements.

voxguru Says:

Sep 16, 2008 - Here's a few ideas: Get a good Grammar Exercise book; find a good English teacher; copy some simple English texts.. AND, don't do the test until you're ready. Prepare and practice. Don't underestimate the difficulty of the Writing section, esp. the essay!!

Oct 15, 2008 - Dear Sir. What us to do in this case: Whoever controls the media also controls opinions and attitudes of the people and there is little that can be done to rectify this. There are obviously two statements. And question: to what extent do you agree or disagree? So, i'm might be agree to the first part and disagree to the latter part of the statement. how to plan in this case?

voxguru Says:

Oct 15, 2008 - Right. So, you're Position could be: In my view, whoever controls the media also controls (or at least can profoundly shape) public opinion. However, I believe that much can be done to rectify this situation (such as democratising the media). THEN, you'd go on in separate paragraphs to fully develop your answers (positions) presented in your introduction. Thanks for your question - good one! AND, check out the e-book on essay writing at the website!
