Oct 25, 2008 - I think John McCain's lack of eye contact with Obama was a half-baked attempt at gamesmanship. Perhaps he thought this tactic might unnerve Obama, who is a rather weak debater, and give him an edge. It clearly didn't work, and in fact seemed to backfire on McCain in terms of how millions of viewers saw him as rude and contemptuous. McCain should've taken a look at how Reagan handled himself in televised debates, using wry and and sometimes self-deprecating humor to gain a tactical edge.

Maybe he's simply afraid of Obama, afraid to fully engage with him because he knows he's outclassed in every way? Certainly McCain's campaign has been an abysmal failure. And btw, you said "since Truman" so you need to remove 1, 6, and 7 I don't argue for either side, they are all politicians. The McCain campaign misled most Americans into thinking Obama was a socialist looking to spread the wealth. If you really make over $250,000 as I do, then you know paying these new taxes will make a negligible difference to you financially.
